Hairstyles for Different Face Shapes

Your face shape is one of the main factors that help in determining the kind of hairstyle you choose. The right hairstyle accentuates your positive features and can completely transform you in a more stylish way.  Here’s a quick guide of what to look for and what to avoid for five different face shapes.

Oval Face Shapes:

The oval shape is considered to be the most versatile shapes for styling right from hairstyles to choosing the right kind of sunglasses. If you have an oval face shape, you can try various lengths from long hair to medium length hair. The proportions of the oval face are well balanced and look attractive in any hairstyle. Experiment and have fun with a variety of looks, because this face shape can pull it all off.

Long Face Shapes:

A long shaped face would require you to select a haircut that adds more dimension to the shape of the face. For this shape, curly and wavy hair would be ideal. You need a hairstyle that won’t drag down your face but that gives it width.  Shoulder-length or chin-length bobs can also create the illusion of width. Short choppy hairstyles also suit long shaped faces.

Round Face Shapes:

For a round shaped face, you must select a hairstyle that adds more length to the face. You also want to minimize the appearance of roundness. Long hair is ideal for women with a round face shape. Long hair will also help to add to the length of the face. Try cuts that fall just below the chin. Soft, graduated layers are a great bet because they make your face appear slimmer and tend to remove bulk and weight from the sides. Wispy edges or tapered ends of the strands are best suited for long shaped faces.

Square Face Shapes:

If you have a square face, you’ll want to play down your strong, angular jaw. You need a hairstyle that softens these strong features. Soften your strong features by adding lots of texture. Choose a hairstyle that is short to medium in length that has waves around the face. A hairstyle that has an off center part to break up the squareness of your face. Avoid choosing short haircuts, as it will only make your face look squarer in shape. Stay away from one-length bobs that fall at the chin or bangs that are blunt-cut because they make your face look even more square.

Heart Face Shapes:

Heart shaped faces look better with a haircut that allows the hair to frame the face softly.  Your pointy chin tends to be the focal point of your face. Try to go in for choppy layers to add more dimension to the hairstyle. Chin length bobs look amazing on a heart-shaped face because they create fullness where you need it. Long bangs are also an ideal and stylish option.

So before thinking of a new hairstyle, you should  also consider your hair texture, age and your lifestyle requirements. Know more about the shape of your face and then go in for an appropriate haircut that suits you.
